Flowers Always

Flowers have played such an important role in my life. My father was a horticulturist, he had nurseries in Gran Canaria and grew flowers and cuttings to export to Europe. He would often come home with bunches of chrysanthemums for my mother to display at home.
Consequently when I had a home of my own, I would buy flowers too. Sometimes I'd buy them from our local store, but more often than not I would support some elderly ladies who had a nursery in our local town. They sold them in buckets on the side of the road, they were displayed in small posies and dripping in water they would wrap them up in old pieces of newspaper. I loved that, flowers bought directly from the people who had grown them, no perfect, sterile bunch from the shop.

This photo is one of my favourites of the boys growing up, I just love this bunch of roses plonked in a vase, flowers always. The boys mucking around. Daniel always on his own mission, there he is at the back, Alexander looking on, observing and Oliver the daredevil spunk staring directly at the camera.
